DOOMSDAY CLOCK

Over the course of 9 years, the world has seen the rise of a mysterious religion, the Church of Oras. Vogel Marcellus, the church's charismatic leader, claims that he is the voice of the God Oras in human form, sent to Earth to warn believers that God is angry and will begin to destroy the planet. He says that the only way to be saved is to join him in the Paradise Zone, which is his compound. As the religion grows, parts of the world are starting to be torn apart and made uninhabitable by a force that Marcellus calls "The Anger of Oras," which he says is proof that the end times have begun. The world's leaders demand an investigation and military forces are sent to the compound. Marcellus tells his followers that this is the beginning of a holy war and they must fight back to save the Paradise Zone, as Oras has decided to destroy the rest of the world in 48 hours.

You assume the role of Ark Alsnova, a young man who was brought into the faith by his mother when he was 8. Now 17 and part of the Oras Army, he is badly injured when the battlefield is mysteriously hit by the Anger although the Paradise Zone was supposedly the only safe place. He is the only one to survive the attack. His faith shaken, he goes back to question the leader and find the truth about the Church of Oras.

What is Doomsday Clock?

Doomsday Clock is my ongoing video game project. It is a 2D action-adventure hack 'n' slasher that takes inspiration from the 8- and 16-bit games that I played growing up in the 1990s, such as Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Mega Man X, and Skyblazer. All the artwork, sounds, music, story, programming, and visual effects were created by me. This game is a labor of love that I have vastly enjoyed creating and hope to be able to improve and expand upon it.

Please watch the trailer above and then download and play the DEMO!

Also, please make sure to read the INSTRUCTION BOOKLET. There is no tutorial in the game, so the booklet is the way that you'll learn to play, unless you're more of a trial-and-error player.

Here are the basic controls, but please read the whole instruction booklet for more advanced gameplay:

I want your feedback! Please contact me and tell me what you think about the game. If you find any bugs or issues, or just have some suggestions, feel free to email me at jakie.wade@gmail.com or parabolakid@gmail.com .

Please understand that I'm still very much a beginner at game development and am still learning. I would really appreciate it if you would act as a tester and look for and point out problems regarding the gameplay. I welcome constructive criticism as well.

Here is a list of known issues that exist but don't necessarily hinder gameplay. Since I know about these already, it wouldn't be helpful for anyone to tell me about them.

1. Tiling/terrain:
Getting the textures for the ground, walls, and ceilings to tile together seamlessly is difficult. I worked on it for a very long time, and while I think I did okay, it's certainly not perfect and seams are very easy to spot. I'm working to make the next iteration of this game more attractive, and the terrain is one of the main things I'm trying to get right.

2. Moving platforms may stop:
I'm not sure why, but moving platforms have a tendency to stop or overlap each other. This could be an issue in only one place in the game. If you happen to run into this, there is a workaround... Hold the X KEY while standing on solid ground. The platforms will begin to move again. Hold X until they move into a position where you can safely ride on them. Also, these platforms are generally grouped in threes and they appear to have gaps in between them. Unless they're really far away from each other, you can safely jump on and run across the three platforms without falling.

One last thing about platforms of this type. The X key will let you drop from these platforms, so don't press it while standing on one if there isn't stable ground beneath it.

If you happen to jump and get stuck in midair somewhere in the game, press X and you'll fall. I know that sounds weird.

3. Enemies could fall through the floor when shocked, frozen, or burned:
I also don't know why this happens. It's not that big of a deal, really, but it could happen during gameplay.

4. You could possibly get stuck in between some small gaps:
I went through the game and tried to eliminate all small gaps that are the same size and width as the player because you'll sometimes get stuck there. If you run into this issue somewhere, press the RIGHT CTRL KEY to restart from your last checkpoint. I don't think you will have this happen to you, but if it does, I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

5. HP still drains during some dialogue scenes:
The Drain Time mechanic is a central part of the gameplay, and it never stops. The only time that you don't have to worry about this is during cutscenes where your HP/SP gauge isn't onscreen. There are instances where textboxes will appear while you're moving. In most of these cases, your HP will refill to 100 percent. However, it will still drain, so please read the dialogue box before you end up dying... Don't let the game sit in these situations.

And that's it. None of these issues break the game, but I'm working on fixes for them now. Again, if you find any problems other than these, please contact me about them.

Thank you very much!!!!

Ninja James Roberts

Ninja James Roberts

Ninja James Roberts is my ongoing comic project. It is an action-adventure story with comedic elements and lots of video game references. It's for both men and women, ages 13 and older. There is an overall theme of following dreams, making friends, and cherishing bonds, which is universal to people of all ages.

What's the story?

James Roberts is a peon at the mysterious company, NONECO, who spends his days typing names and numbers into a database and dreaming of a more interesting job. Seems pretty ordinary, but at NONECO, things are anything but. When his only friend goes missing, James must become the Corporate Ninja and take on the entire company in order to save her. Will he be able to survive thirteen floors of insane battles against the management? It's the perfect job for Ninja James Roberts!
